Welcome to the September 2020 update from the Interactr Development team.

These updates are to keep our users in the loop with what changes have been made, what is being worked on, and some sneak peek screenshots of future updates in the pipeline.

It’s not the biggest update this month as the whole team has been focussed on one thing this month and that’s the new 2.0 update.

I’m really excited about this update and I think it’s going to be a massive jump forward for us.

Interactr 2.0 & Beta Access

So let's get the bad news out of the way first. Unfortunately, the app just isn’t ready yet for beta users. We’ve had some unexpected challenges with the new codebase and tech stack over the last few weeks which have put us behind schedule.

We still hope to have beta access ready this month provided no more unexpected issues arrive.

However, as in previous months, I’ll share some screenshots of how the update is coming along.

Redesign

The first thing you will notice from the images is this month we have implemented our new redesign.

The new projects page remains pretty much unchanged from before, we’ve just changed the design of the project cards a little.

The new node editor allows you to easily see which elements are being clicked the most and how many times each one has been viewed.

The element's properties have now been broken down into tabs to allow us more space to add extra functionality into here in the future.

All elements now have animation properties and can be animated outside of an interaction layer.

When a clickable element is clicked it’s now possible to save that click as a survey response and also send that click as a Facebook pixel event.

New Elements are now added via the sidebar from a vertical list. It’s now possible to add an event to your videos that can open a popup or fire a Facebook pixel at a certain time in the video.

Video Encoding Issues

We’re starting to become aware of issues with some users' videos after uploading them into the app. The issue is around the audio and video becoming out of sync.

We’ve been backward and forwards with our encoding service provider over the last month or so and they don’t seem to be any closer to finding the reason.

I think we may have to look at a new encoding service but we’ve haven’t decided yet. We’re hoping to have a resolution to this soon.

Changelog

As mentioned in the intro, the team has all been heads down on the 2.0 update so there are not many updates in the changelog.

Here is the changelog:

  • Fixed player not correctly tracking mobile views
  • Fixed the new user's projects not being selected on the agency page
  • Force phones to go into landscape mode to give a better experience viewing interactive videos in fullscreen
  • Added new SVG icons and better UI for mobile
  • Added zoom effect to thumbnail on hover

Wrap Up

We’re all doing everything we can to get the beta in the hands of some users ASAP.
